Rockwood Area System Upgrades

Learn how we’re strengthening the energy grid and improving service for you.

We’re strengthening the energy grid to make it smarter, more efficient and more reliable for you. As part of this work, we’ll upgrade transmission lines in the Rockwood area later this year. But first, in preparation for the new lines, we need to trim and remove some trees along the power line rights of way in this neighborhood.

Tree maintenance schedule

  • Late March through July 2019
  • 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday

This schedule may change based on the needs of the project.

What you can expect during tree trimming and removal

You’ll see crews from our contractor, Asplundh Tree Services, working along the streets highlighted on the map above. They will be pruning branches and, in some cases, removing trees that have grown too large for the spots where they are planted and pose a risk to safe, reliable power delivery.

After we install new power cables, we’ll follow municipal rules and “right tree, right place” guidelines as we plant new street-friendly trees that won’t interfere with the cables or damage sidewalks.

If you have a question about how this work may affect you, please contact us at 503-612-3730.

We’re taking steps to ensure your safety. Here’s how you can help:

  • Watch for temporary one-lane and full-street closures that may be needed. Allow extra time for commuting through these areas.
  • Follow any detours and signs placed to keep drivers, pedestrians and workers safe.
  • Please avoid all work areas and equipment, and make sure children know to never touch the equipment.

What you can expect during transmission upgrades

After the tree work is complete, we’ll start installing new transmission lines and poles in the summer of 2019. These improvements will:

  • Replace aging equipment
  • Ensure service redundancy and reliability
  • Reduce the risk of outages for the Rockwood area
  • Keep pace with growth in our region, and help improve overall system operations for all of our customers
  • Enhance and modernize the energy grid, creating a platform for a clean energy future

This installation will occur along busy roads, and it will affect traffic. We want residents of the area to be aware that, at times, the project will require evening work, lane closures and some MAX Light Rail schedule delays at night. Please allow extra time for commuting.

Thank you for your patience as we strengthen the energy grid.
