At ChildRoots, sustainability runs deep

ChildRoots is a progressive and thoughtful arts and science learning community in Portland, providing childcare for children ages six weeks to six years. Their main office and Burnside Annex preschool are powered by PGE Green SourceSM and respecting the environment is woven into everything they do.

Children in their programs learn the meaning of “reduce, reuse, recyle” early. Inspired by a child’s curiosity surrounding the natural world, Childroots’ teachers model respect, caring and reverence for the Earth. Together, they explore where their resources come from and children are encouraged to take only what they need.

Choosing renewable power is part of what Childroot’s calls its “eco-mmitment.” Committed to business practices that are safe, sustainable and best for the environment and children. To put this eco-mmitment to work at each of their six locations, Childroots:

  • Serves organic food.
  • Uses green cleaning products.
  • Recycles and repurposes materials and sources locally as much as possible.
  • Uses natural materials for toys.
