Put our parks on your summer must-do list

Make it a day trip or reserve your campsite at a PGE park now

What are your favorite ways to enjoy the outdoors? If your list includes camping, fishing, hiking, paddling, spending time with family or bike touring, then be sure to visit a PGE park this spring or summer. Need more enticement? Check out the new and special attractions below.

Two Deschutes campgrounds join the PGE Parks lineup

You’ll find improved facilities and our friendly PGE Parks staff, plus more campsites you can reserve online, at Perry South and Monty campgrounds. Perry South is on Lake Billy Chinook, and Monty is just upstream on the lower Metolius River. We added these parks to our roster under an agreement with the US Forest Service. Upgrades include new restrooms, fire rings and picnic tables, and more barrier-free campsites.

Kids learn how to get their “fish on” for free, June 1

Children will have the opportunity to fish with an expert angler and learn how to cast and “catch and release” as part of the statewide Free Fishing Weekend. They can also enjoy art activities and a free hot dog lunch. We’re teaming up with the Mount Hood National Forest to host this free clinic from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Small Fry Lake in Promontory Park, near Estacada. It’s aimed at kids 11 and under, but older kids and adults will find the event fun and interesting, too.

Junior Ranger program kicks off third year

More than 500 kids (and one enthusiastic 90-year-old) completed our engaging PGE Junior Ranger program last year. When visiting a PGE campground, your child can pick up a Park Explorer activity book from the PGE park host to learn about nature and wildlife conservation. Once kiddos complete the activities, they can collect a certificate and an “official” PGE Junior Ranger badge.
