PGE Parks and COVID-19
The safety of park visitors, employees, volunteers, and partners is very important to us. To ensure their safety during the coronavirus crisis, on March 23, 2020 we temporarily closed the 14 parks and recreation areas we operate. We are taking a phased approach to reopening them, in cooperation with managers of other nearby recreation sites.
Announced re-opening dates
Open as of May 22:
- Promontory Park
- North Fork Boat Launch
- Pelton Park
- Pelton Wildlife Overlook
- Trojan Park
Opening May 29:
- Timothy Lake
- Lake Harriet

- Monty Campground
- Perry South Campground
Opening June 1:

- Timber Park
Closed Indefinitely for reasons unrelated to COVID-19:
- Faraday Lake (for construction)
- Trout Creek Ranch (for golden eagle nesting)
We are following the guidance of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), state and local public health authorities and our recreation partners as we open our park and recreation facilities.
Visitors to parks are asked to practice physical distancing from those outside their immediate party.
To help protect visitors’ health and safety, we are keeping campground showers and large-group communal areas closed, increasing the frequency of facilities cleaning and disinfecting, posting signage to promoting physical distancing, and scheduling additional staff. The company is also working with concessionaires at PGE Parks to help them follow CDC safety guidelines.
Scenic beauty on a popular lake
On the Metolius Arm of Lake Billy Chinook, this campground offers easy access to one of the area’s most popular lakes.
You can enjoy fishing and comfortable camping with the convenience of a boat ramp, docks and drinking water while surrounded by the beauty of rugged canyons and a diverse evergreen forest.
The campground features more than 60 campsites in two loops. Many sites can be reserved ahead of time, so plan to arrive early if you hope to land a first-come, first-served site on a hot central Oregon weekend.
Motorized boats are allowed on the reservoir, making it easy to cool off with water sports or spend the day fishing for bass, trout, kokanee salmon, whitefish, and the occasional sucker, minnow or dace. The surrounding hills offer glimpses of bald eagles, mule deer, coyote and black-tailed jackrabbit.
The park is located in the Deschutes National Forest. PGE manages this site in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service.
