50 percent renewables for a cleaner future
We are committed to providing reliable, sustainable and reasonably priced electricity. Now, our energy mix is getting even cleaner. In 2016, Oregon’s Legislature passed a landmark energy bill, called the Oregon Clean Electricity and Coal Transition Plan, that will help our environment while protecting you and our state’s economy.
Oregon’s previous Renewable Energy Standard required us to provide 25 percent of the electricity our customers use from qualifying renewable energy sources by 2025. Under the new law, by 2040, half of the electricity we deliver to you will meet that standard. The plan also transitions Oregon off coal-fired electricity by 2035.
As a result, Oregon’s electricity sector will be on track to meet the state’s greenhouse gas reduction goals by reducing carbon emissions to 75 percent below 1990 levels by 2050. The law includes important provisions to keep prices affordable and ensure reliability for you.

PGE is already working hard to meet this new plan that will reduce carbon emissions. Our recently completed Tucannon River Wind Farm added 267 megawatts to our wind portfolio. We’ll use our integrated resource planning process to evaluate the best combination of resources available to get us the rest of the way there.
Helping you increase energy efficiency
We are also working with Energy Trust of Oregon to promote and expand energy efficiency among our customers, to reduce our power growth.
